Psychotherapy: with Juan…
‘Psycho’ – from psyche (ψυχή) meaning breath, life, soul or spirit.
‘Therapy’ – from therapeia (θεραπεία) meaning service, healing or treatment.
Hello, I am Juan Michael and welcome to my website.
I am a qualified psychotherapist and I offer individual ongoing psychotherapy sessions in London. Officially, I am registered with (the UK’s two regulating organisations) the BACP and UKCP.
By scrolling down, you can read more about who I am, what I offer, my approach and experience and my first meeting and contact details.
If any of the words or images expressed on my website resonate with you, you might consider reaching out to make contact. A first meeting would be an opportunity to share what brings you and your hopes for therapy. The meeting would also be a chance for me to introduce myself and describe what’s on offer. From that, we can consider if you get the sense I might be the right person to work with. Or, I can try to help you identify who or what might be more appropriate – in terms of the right support for you at this time.
With kind regards,
Juan.

Welcome
You are welcome in your individual gender, sexuality, relationship diversity, race, ethnicity, heritage, social class, religion, spirituality, health diagnosis or with any disability. You will be welcomed with a respectful, non-judgemental and professional attitude; in a confidential and uninterrupted space. All parts of you, as you feel safe enough and willing to share them, are welcome, holistically.
Therapy
Therapy is a process that makes space and time for you. In a safe and consistent environment you can begin to relax and express yourself. Therapy isn’t always comfortable because being more open and accepting of yourself can be uncomfortable. However, there can be relief in putting words to your own experience. Over time, you might feel an increased sense of growth, capacity and clarity.
Supervision
Supervision is a regular space for therapists to support themselves through reflection on their practice. I offer supervision as a relaxed, containing and explorative space; which I hope would be nourishing and rewarding. As a supervisor, I aim to be clear, encouraging and appropriately challenging. My approach is integrative and I hold a Certificate in Supervision, from Re-Vision.

“The study of dreams may be considered the most trustworthy method of investigating deep mental processes.” Sigmund Freud
Experience
I completed an integrative training which was shaped by psychodynamic, gestalt and transpersonal principles. As a result, I am registered with the BACP and UKCP and adhere to their ethical frameworks. I have worked in organisations including state and private education sectors, ELOP and Re-vision’s Low Cost Counselling Service. I have experience in NHS psychiatric and community settings. Currently, I am a tutor on Re-vision’s Integrative training. Owing to my ongoing professional development, in Jungian Psychology, I have experience working with people twice and three times a week.
Approach
My approach is relational and places value on establishing a constructive therapeutic relationship. As such, my approach is warm, thoughtful and empathetic. With space for humour and lightness, I will approach you in a professional and dignified manner. Arising from reflection, my approach gives attention to inner life as guided by insight, embodied awareness and meaning-making. I take a non-pathologizing, culturally aware and racially sensitive approach to healing. My approach gives attention to conscious and unconscious dynamics, as glimpsed/grasped through dreams, intuition, creativity and body-talk.
Themes
I have experience working with a range of themes, symptoms and human struggles, including: early years trauma and wounding; bullying and isolation; identity issues related to gender, sexuality, race, class or heritage; struggles with relationships and codependency; mental health diagnoses; ancestral, inter-generational and complex trauma; difficulty with mood states such as depression, anxiety, stress, panic; burnout, breakdown or loss of direction, purpose, meaning; addiction, compulsion and self-harm; spiritual or religious crisis; body image, eating disorder, gender dysphoria and sleep disturbance.

“Every human being, every human personality, has a story and derangement comes when the story is denied or it is rejected. And, it is only in the discovery of this story, enabling the patient to rediscover the personal story, that the patient could be healed again.”
Sir Laurens Van Der Post
